RE-ELECT SENATOR PARKER
EQUITY MATTERS, EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Experience Matters
State Senator Kevin S. Parker is a government policy expert who has served in the New York State Senate for 20 years, representing Brooklyn’s diverse 21st Senate District.
A lifelong Brooklynite who grew up in the Bushwick Houses NYCHA development, Senator Parker serves as the Majority Whip, making him the fourth-ranking member of the Senate.
He is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Telecommunications, and serves on the Finance Committee, the Banking Committee, the Insurance Committee, and the Internet and Technology Committee.
Senator Parker is one of the most accomplished legislators in Albany history, having passed over 90 bills, including 10 in the 2021-22 session.
Policies
Senator Parker is running for re-election to continue building a greener, fairer and prosperous city for ALL New Yorkers.
Battling Climate Change
Senator Parker is a leading voice in climate change and creating green-collar jobs in New York. He was instrumental in passing the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), which is the nation’s most aggressive set of climate goals and aims to make 100% of New York’s energy carbon-free by the year 2040. Senator Parker is also looking forward to passing his bill, the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA), which will give the practical framework to make the CLCPA a reality.
Police Reform + Accountability
Senator Parker is committed to ensuring that we have law enforcement that serves and protects, but does so with dignity and respect. After the murder of George Floyd, Kevin Parker authored 4 of the first 10 police reform laws that passed in our state, with the added distinction of being the original author of 2 other bills in the packet.
Broadband Access
Senator Parker is dedicated to keeping New Yorkers connected to high-speed broadband in ways that are affordable. In addition to preventing the utility companies from shutting off utility access for New Yorkers during the pandemic, he was instrumental in bringing forth a low-income internet package ($15/month), and giving NYCHA residents access to free broadband.
Health Disparities in the African-American Community
Senator Parker created a law that declares racism a public health crisis (S2987A), and had the state publish annual reports relating to diversity in state government (S4746, 2021). Moreover, after seeing that COVID disproportionately affected people of color, Senator Parker passed a state law that conducted a study on the impacts of COVID-19 on minority communities.
